Christopher Goeke was 2004 graduate of Apple Valley High School. While attending Apple Valley High School, Chris captained the Mock Trial team to second place in the State of MN, was an accomplished percussionist, was a member of the Apple Valley Eagles football and tennis teams and was an integral part of forming what is now the Ultimate Frisbee team at the high school. Academically, Chris was a leader in the classroom and excelled in all of his classes to include advanced courses like AP European History, Accelerated Physics, AP Calculus and Accelerated Biology. Chris was a leader not only in school, but in the church and local community. Chris was posthumously awarded the 2011 Distinguished Alumnus Award by the South Suburban High School Conference.
 
 
Following Graduation from Apple Valley High School, Chris was accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point where he continued the development of his mind, body and spirit and became one of West Point’s finest cadets. Chris graduated 6th in his class at West Point in 2008. He earned his jump wings and was a graduate of the US Army’s prestigious Army Ranger School, earning the coveted ‘RANGER’ tab Commissioned a second lieutenant after graduation, Chris joined the famed 82nd Airborne Division as a junior office. Chris was serving as a captain with the 82nd Airborne, when he was killed in action in July 2010, repelling an attack by enemy forces in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
 
 
The Warrior 196 Leadership Foundation is a primary sponsor and beneficiary of the Christopher Goeke Memorial. The Warrior 196 is a non-profit organization, whose mission is to honor and remember five young men from Independent School District 196 who paid the ultimate sacrifice while actively serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. The Warrior 196 Leadership Foundation awards scholarships to young leaders from each of the four comprehensive high schools in Independent School District 196. Proceeds from the Goeke Memorial Tournament benefit the Warrior 196 Scholarship Fund, which awards eight annual scholarships to graduating seniors from the four high schools in the district. Since 2013, the W196 has awarded nearly $45,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors from Rosemount, Apple Valley, Eagan, and Eastview High School.
