We recognize the need to train our instructors for introductory youth ultimate clinics and other outreach initiatives, such as PE class takeovers, after-school programs or camps. Sometimes instructors are coaches, but they are often parents, players or local disc staff who know ultimate, but may lack teaching skills.
In response, we worked with California Ultimate to develop a course for recreational instructors that focuses on teaching the basic ultimate skills. The facilitator training has two parts. One part is on how to teach; a second part addresses what to teach. In both cases, the participant will be given a chance to practice teaching the skills and receive feedback.
We invite local disc organizations to come early to participate in the training, so you can take it back to your area. We see you as being an instructor, but also training other instructors locally.
Who: Someone who would be interested in facilitating a Recreational Instructor Certification clinic locally. A facilitator would be an ultimate player who has some knowledge of how to perform the basic skills of ultimate to introduce a new player to the sport.
When: Friday, February 3 from 8:30 am- 12:30 pm MDT prior to the start of the convention
Lunch will be provided
Where: At the USA Ultimate Organizer Convention - Hyatt Place – Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs, CO
Prior to the Clinic
Please select an activity that you will be able to explain and to demonstrate. The explanation should be short (two minutes or less) and the demonstration should also be short (two minutes or less). What you explain can be ultimate related or not. We have had people explain how to make a PBJ (yes, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich), for instance.
