The Transcontinentals

Cincinnati, Ohio

Competition Level:
Great Grand Masters
Gender Division:
Women
Notes:
The Transcontinentals first played together in 1871 in Bridgeport, CN in a park across the street from a local pie company. We have played significant exhibition games in Washington, DC on August 18, 1920, at Wham-o in 1957, in Boston on April 19, 1966 and again on April 19, 1967. Our biggest event to date was at an invitational in the Columbia HS parking lot in Maplewood, NJ in 1968. And we were happy to make an appearance at Glamorise Foundations in 1975. We look forward to playing the first ultimate at the Olympics in 2084. We are fortunate in that all our original players are still with the team. Though we have spread across the country over the years (and even to Japan!), we enjoy the opportunities we have to play together in our old age. It often feels like we’re meeting each other again for the first time! We appreciate USAU’s recognition of the Great-Grand-Mothers Women’s division, so we can finally chase around other centenarians. We hope to bring to Denver our ancient wisdom, deep spirit and absolute love of the sport that knows it’s still just a game. We also hope to remember each other’s names!
