We no longer require coaches to complete the Foundational Coach training prior to taking the certification course. If your intent is to complete a youth (formerly middle school or high school) or college certification, you can skip the Foundational Coach training and sign up for the certification clinic now. You are still required to have SafeSport, background check, and concussion training prior to registering for the certification clinic. If you are unsure on what you need, please here for guidance.
The Foundational Coach training does NOT satisfy requirements for certification for certain USAU events such as YCC, state championships or college nationals where each team needs at least one CERTIFIED coach.
You must be current with SafeSport training, have a completed background check, and have completed the concussion training in order to purchase the Foundational Coach test.
Please use the clinic registration to request the Foundational Coach test AFTER viewing the coaching videos on your member dashboard. There is not clinic that you have to attend. In addition to questions from the video, there are rules questions as well. A rule book is available at the USAU website.
The test will include multiple choice and reflective questions that require a short answer. A passing score of 80% is required.
The Foundational Coach training is required to attend any USA Ultimate coach certification clinic. This Foundational Coach training will expire on December 31, 2026.
The RAD grant is not available unless you complete the youth or college certification.
